Abu Dhabi Newborn Photographer – My Photography Journey

As an Abu Dhabi newborn photographer, my journey into photography commenced when my first child was born, ten years ago. At the time I never had any interest and unfortunately even though I have captured over a 1000 babies with my camera now, I have no newborn images of my children. My husband, when Lucy was one year old, bought me my first DSLR, the canon 450d. I didn’t want to just rely on the automatic mode so purchased a dummies book for the specific camera model. I read the book front to back and practiced as much as possible. I had the perfect model. I also attended basic workshops while I was in the UK to learn different techniques. At the time it was still completely a hobby.

After my son was born, we moved to Abu Dhabi. I spent the first year here setting up a home for my family, all the while I kept my photography skills, my capturing my own children and my friends. I took a studio lighting course with Gulf photo plus and then a year after moving I launched my photography business.

To begin with I photographed children of all ages, but when my good friend had her newborn I asked if I could capture his first few weeks. I instantly fell in love with newborn photography but knew I required some training with such a specialized type of photography. As a newborn photographer I think my biggest change came when I travelled to New York to be taught by the incredible, experienced Keri Meyers. I learnt newborn safety, posing, lighting, angles, parent preparation and editing. After this workshop my confidence really grew in my business. I then knew I only wanted to specialise in newborn photography. This was the time I invested in all my amazing props, which keeps growing even today.

I now have the honor to train other photographers who want to expand their newborn photography business. My style has relatively stayed the same, I still prefer light, soft images with the frequent use of colors and texture. I really loved looking through my earlier work to see just how much my photography has improved over the years. With experience, hard work, passion and patience your newborn photography will too.

I love to read other photographers journeys and stories. Read Jenna Marshall photography, she does incredible work in Steveange, Hertfordshire as a family photographer.
